St. John’s Takes Down Georgetown, 6-1

The Red Storm improve to 4-0 in BIG EAST play after Wednesday’s win
COLLEGE PARK, Md. – The St. John's men's tennis team cruised past BIG EAST foe Georgetown (5-13, 2-2 BIG EAST), 6-1, on Wednesday afternoon in College Park, Md.
With the victory, the Red Storm improve to 14-5 overall and remain perfect in conference play at 4-0. St. John's dominated from the start, sweeping doubles action before securing five singles victories to seal the win.
The duo of Mats Pottbecker and Sergej Zivkovic opened the day with a commanding 6-0 victory over Arthur O'Sullivan and Cyrus Zia on the No. 1 court. Adam Groves and Semen Agynskyy clinched the doubles point on the No. 3 court, earning a 6-1 win against Henry Williams and Burke Pablo.
Holding a 1-0 advantage, the Red Storm carried their momentum into singles play. Danilo Raicevic extended the lead with a 6-2, 6-2 win on the No. 6 court, before Radomir Tomic pushed the advantage to 3-0 with a 6-4, 6-1 victory over O'Sullivan at the No. 1 spot.
St. John's secured the match shortly after, as Agynskyy collected his second win of the day with a 6-1, 6-3 triumph on the No. 3 court.
Georgetown picked up its lone point on the No. 2 court, but the Red Storm responded with additional wins from Venedikt Tsirikidze and Groves on the No. 4 and No. 5 courts, respectively, to finalize the 6-1 result.
With the win, St. John's improves to 15-3 against Georgetown dating back to 2004 and has now claimed seven straight matches in the series.
The Red Storm will return to action on Friday for a doubleheader against Queens College and Fordham at the Hawthorn/Rooney Tennis Courts in the Bronx. First serve against the Knights is scheduled for 10 a.m., followed by a 1 p.m. matchup with the Rams.
