Red Storm opens home play on Friday in Queens, N.Y.

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – The St. John's baseball team dropped its midweek contest to Penn State in University Park, Pa., on Wednesday evening, 12-2.

The Nittany Lions (4-6) put up six runs in the first four innings, and the Red Storm (1-10) were unable to keep pace.

Shaun McMillan had a strong evening at the dish, going 2-for-4 and scoring a run. Adam Agresti went 1-for-3 with an RBI and drew a walk, while Lewis Rodriguez also knocked in a run with a sacrifice fly RBI.

Tommy Conley started the contest but couldn't get out of the second inning, allowing four runs in the frame. A number of Johnnies came out of the bullpen, but only Evan Hoeckele was effective with 1.2 innings of scoreless ball.

St. John's opened the contest by loading the bases with two outs, but no runs came across to start the game.

Penn State opened the scoring in the bottom of the second inning, knocking in four runs.

The Johnnies broke through in the top of the fourth inning. After Sean Britt was hit by a pitch and Agresti worked a walk, Rob Mansour laid down a sacrifice bunt to advance both runners into scoring position. Lewis Rodriguez lifted a ball to left field and brought home Britt to make it 4-1.

The Nittany Lions plated another two runs in the bottom of the inning to grow the advantage to 6-1.

The Red Storm tacked on another run in the top of the fifth frame. A leadoff single from McMillan got the inning started. Ayden Frey got aboard following catcher's interference to put runners on first and second. Agresti roped a single up the left side to score McMillan and advance Frey, but the Nittany Lions got out of the inning, 6-2.

Penn State responded with a three-run home run in the fifth to make it 9-2.

In the top of the seventh, St. John's stirred up trouble with two aboard but the rally fizzled before a run could cross the plate.

Penn State continued to add insurance runs in the seventh to make it a 12-2 final.

St. John's is back in action this weekend for the 2026 home opener with a three-game set against UAlbany from March 6-8. First pitch from Jack Kaiser Stadium is set for 3 p.m. on Friday.
