Red Storm will face Mercer on Thursday before taking on host Florida Gulf Coast on Friday
QUEENS, N.Y. – The St. John's men's tennis team will travel to Fort Myers for a pair of matches this week, beginning with Mercer (3-5) on Thursday before facing host Florida Gulf Coast (4-8, 1-0 ASUN) on Friday.
First serve against the Bears is set for 11 a.m., while Friday's matchup with the Eagles will begin at 5 p.m. from the FGCU Tennis Complex.
Last weekend, the Red Storm (9-1, 2-0 BIG EAST) posted a perfect 3-0 mark in Cleveland, opening with a 4-3 victory over host Cleveland State Vikings before beginning conference play with commanding wins over Butler, 6-1, and Xavier, 7-0.
Following their unblemished 3-0 weekend in doubles action, Danilo Raicevic and Radomir Tomic were named BIG EAST Doubles Team of the Week, earning the honor for the first time this season.
Mercer enters Thursday's matchup riding a three-match winning streak with victories over Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College, Young Harris and Georgia State. Under head coach Eric Hayes, the Bears turned in an impressive 2025 campaign, posting a 6-1 mark in Southern Conference play and advancing to the conference tournament semifinals before falling to Samford.
The Johnnies will look to snap Mercer's three-match winning streak in what will mark the first all-time meeting between the two programs when they square off in Fort Myers.
After a hard-fought ASUN semifinal appearance that saw the FGCU fall just short against Stetson, 4-3, Josh Molino's squad enters Friday's matchup riding a three-match winning streak with victories over Elon, UNC Greensboro and Queens (N.C.).
Friday's contest will mark the third all-time meeting between the programs. FGCU claimed the most recent matchup on Jan. 14, 2016, in Fort Myers, while St. John's earned a 6-1 victory in the inaugural meeting in March 2009.
Following its two-match swing in the Sunshine State, St. John's will return to Queens to host BIG EAST foe Creighton on March 12. First serve from the USTA National Tennis Center is scheduled for 1 p.m.
