GAME 1
Ahead of game one, the St. John's softball program honored the life and legacy of Derek "DJ" Southerland, a former manager of the team and superfan of St. John's athletics. Students in attendance received a complimentary pair of JLAB Headphones as a tribute to DJ.
The Red Storm jumped out to a fast start in the opener, plating five runs in the bottom of the first inning.
Slade singled and Limbani walked before Ana Serafinko loaded the bases with a base hit. Lysiak was hit by a pitch to bring home the game's first run before Stouffer lifted a sacrifice fly to double the lead. Meadows later drew a bases-loaded walk, and Platero capped the inning with a two-run single to give the Johnnies a 5-0 advantage.
Creighton responded in the second inning with a solo home run before taking control in the third, scoring five runs to move ahead, 6-5.
St. John's tied the game in the fourth inning when Limbani came around to score on Stouffer's second sacrifice fly of the contest.
The Bluejays regained the lead in the fifth inning, using a grand slam to take control before adding an insurance run in the sixth to secure an 11-6 victory.
GAME 2
Creighton struck early in the second game, scoring four runs in the first inning before adding three more in the second to take a 7-0 lead.
St. John's got on the board in the fourth inning when Lysiak delivered an RBI single.
The Bluejays extended their lead with single runs in the fifth and sixth innings before breaking the game open with four runs in the seventh.
The Red Storm responded with a four-run rally in the bottom of the frame. Konopka and Meadows opened the inning with back-to-back singles before Bianco drove in a run. Limbani added a sacrifice fly, and Stouffer capped the inning with a two-run single to bring the score to 13-6.
St. John's ultimately could not complete the comeback as Creighton finished off the sweep.
