Stouffer leads the way as St. John’s coasts to Sunday victory
QUEENS, N.Y. — The St. John's softball team defeated Seton Hall, 10-5, on Sunday afternoon at Red Storm Field to complete a three-game sweep.
The Red Storm (31-20, 9-12 BIG EAST) scored 10 runs on 14 hits in the contest, highlighted by a five-run first inning and a three-run sixth. The Johnnies' 14 hits marked the second-highest total in a single game this season, trailing only their 18 against Butler on March 29.
Cassidy Stouffer led the offense with a 3-for-4 performance and three RBIs, while Ana Serafinko added two hits, two RBIs and scored twice. Sarah Post recorded two hits and drove in two runs, and Jess Bianco added a pair of hits and an RBI. London Slade, Natasha Limbani, Madison Konopka, Makenna Meadows and Elanna Lysiak each contributed a hit in the victory.
Stouffer's three hits and three RBIs each matched season-highs for the senior while marking the Red Storm's fifth consecutive game producing a batter with three hits or more.
Limbani extended her hitting streak to 10 games, while Lysiak recorded her seventh straight game with a hit. Slade notched her fourth consecutive game with a hit, and Bianco pushed her hit streak to six games.
In the circle, Serafinko earned her 17th win of the season after tossing a complete game, allowing just five runs on five hits while striking out eight. The Chino Hills, Calif., native now owns 20 complete games on the year, the fourth most in NCAA Division I.
Once Seton Hall (18-29, 6-18 BIG EAST) took an early 1-0 lead, St. John's wasted no time getting on the board in the bottom of the first inning. After Bianco singled and stole second, Serafinko delivered an RBI single to tie the game at 1-1.
Lysiak followed with a base hit before Post drove in a run with a single. Stouffer added an RBI single, and Madison Konopka capped the inning with a run-scoring hit as the Johnnies plated five runs on seven hits to take a 5-1 lead.
The Red Storm added to their advantage in the fourth inning. Slade singled and later scored on a fielder's choice from Serafinko before Post added an RBI single to extend the lead to 7-1.
Seton Hall threatened in the fifth inning, putting runners in scoring position, but the Johnnies worked out of the jam to maintain the six-run cushion.
The Pirates cut into the deficit in the sixth inning with a three-run home run to make it 7-4.
St. John's responded immediately in the bottom half. Stouffer delivered a two-run single before Meadows followed with an RBI base hit to push the lead to 10-4.
Seton Hall added a run in the seventh inning, but Konopka forced the final groundout to ensure the Johnnies held on to the 10-5 victory.
Having concluded home conference play this season, St. John's will shift focus to a midweek tilt at Red Storm Field against Wagner on April 29. First pitch from Queens is set for 2 p.m. The matchup will broadcast on ESPN+, with live stats available on RedStormSports.com.
