St. John’s Lacrosse to Host Marquette on Senior Day

The Johnnies will honor 10 graduating seniors prior to facing the Golden Eagles
QUEENS, N.Y. – The St. John's lacrosse team is set to host Marquette on Saturday in Queens for Senior Day at Cox Family Field at Belson Stadium.
Senior Day festivities will begin at 11 a.m., with opening faceoff scheduled for noon. The Red Storm will honor 10 graduating seniors for their contributions to the program and the athletic department.
Saturday's contest will be streamed on ESPN+ with Kevin Connelly and Cam Manna on the call, while live stats will be available on RedStormSports.com.
Last time out, the Red Storm showed early momentum against Villanova, jumping out to a 3-2 first-quarter lead and later reclaiming a 5-4 advantage in the second quarter behind goals from Chase Huggard and Brody Hergott. Matt Nelson anchored the defense with 15 saves, while seven different Johnnies found the back of the net, including Henry Coke's first career goal. Mitch Campbell added a second-half score as St. John's fell in the BIG EAST opener to the Wildcats.
Nelson has been a key presence in goal, ranking third in the BIG EAST with 12.33 saves per game and fourth in save percentage (.503).
Freshman standout Noah Plenn has also impressed, ranking among the top five in all conference offensive categories while sitting 15th nationally in total points and seventh in points per game (3.25).
The Red Storm's man-down unit has been a major strength, ranking 11th nationally with a .767 kill rate, allowing just seven goals on 30 opportunities. St. John's held opponents scoreless on extra-man chances in its first three games and has allowed no more than one goal in six of its last seven contests.
Saturday marks the 14th all-time meeting between St. John's and Marquette and just the second matchup between the two programs at Cox Family Field at Belson Stadium. In the last meeting in Queens, the Red Storm rallied from a 5-0 deficit to outlast the Golden Eagles, 13-9, on March 30, 2024.
Marquette enters the contest at 5-4 overall and a 1-0 mark in BIG EAST play ,following a 14-13 overtime win over Providence. The Golden Eagles have won three of their last four games and finished 7-7 with a BIG EAST Tournament appearance in 2025.
Head Coach Jake Richard's squad returns three of its top five scorers and added Virginia transfer Tucker Mullen, who has recorded 17 points (13 goals, four assists) through nine games.
Nolan Rappis leads the offense with 31 points, while Carsen Brandt paces the team with 33 points. Defensively, Brady Nichols anchors the unit with 11 caused turnovers and 23 ground balls.
As a team, Marquette ranks first in the BIG EAST in shots per game (40.78) and shots on goal per game (25.22), while sitting second in goals per game (12.11).
Following Saturday's matchup, the Red Storm will travel to face RV/No.20 Denver on April 11. Opening faceoff from Peter Barton Lacrosse Stadium is scheduled for 2 p.m.
