This marks the fourth time the senior has been named to the honor roll in her career
NEW YORK – St. John's track and field standout Jamora Alves was named the BIG EAST Women's Field Athlete of the Week for her impressive performances over the weekend, the league office announced on Tuesday afternoon.
Alves becomes the first Johnnie to earn an athlete of the week honor during the 2026 outdoor season and the first field athlete award since teammate Linn Hertz Saebbo was tabbed during the indoor season in December. This marks the fourth weekly honor of the senior's career and her first since April 15, 2025.
The Grenada native dominated the throwing events at the 2026 Metropolitan Outdoor Championships on April 3, winning both the discus and shot put at Icahn Stadium. Her performances earned Most Outstanding Field Performer honors and helped lead the Red Storm to back-to-back outdoor team titles with 207 points.
Alves recorded a season-best mark of 51.80 meters (169 feet, 11 inches) in the discus, which ranks atop the BIG EAST and 26th in the NCAA East Region. She also posted a 14.81-meter (48 feet, 7.25 inches) throw in the shot put to secure her second gold medal of the meet.
Alves and the Red Storm will compete this weekend at the South Florida Invitational, hosted by USF. Action begins Saturday at the USF Track and Field Complex.
