St. John’s Sweeps Past Queens College, 7-0

The Red Storm improve to 15-5 on the season
QUEENS, N.Y. – The St. John's men's tennis team cruised past Queens College (14-2, 3-1 ECC) on Wednesday afternoon, 7-0, at the Courts at St. John's.
With the victory, the Red Storm improve to 15-5 overall and remain unbeaten in BIG EAST play at 4-0.
St. John's secured the doubles point with wins on all three courts. Mats Pottbecker and David Petrovic opened the match with a 6-4 victory over Lucas Foix Sotos and Alexis Martin-Gibiard on the No. 1 court. Radomir Tomic and Danilo Raicevic clinched the point with a 6-3 decision against Tim Andersson and Said Akbarov at No. 2.
Adam Groves and Semen Agynskyy completed the sweep with a dominant 6-0 win on the No. 3 court.
Leading 1-0, the Johnnies carried their momentum into singles play, claiming all six matches. Tomic earned his second win of the day with a three-set victory over Foix Sotos, 2-6, 6-2, 10-3, on the top court. Petrovic followed with a hard-fought win at No. 2, defeating Andersson, 6-7, 7-6, 11-9, to extend the lead to 3-0.
Agynskyy secured the match for the Red Storm with a 3-6, 6-3, 10-5 victory over Martin-Gibiard on the No. 3 court. Venedikt Tsirikidze, Raicevic, and Groves each added straight-set wins to complete the sweep.
With the win, St. John's improves to 5-0 all-time against Queens College.
The Red Storm return to action on Thursday when they host local rival Fordham at the Hawthorn/Rooney Tennis Courts. First serve is scheduled for 1 p.m.
