St. John’s Cruises Past Fordham, 4-0

The Red Storm improve to 16-5 on the season
QUEENS, N.Y. – The St. John's men's tennis team defeated local rival Fordham (8-13), 4-0, on Thursday afternoon at the Hawthorn/Rooney Tennis Courts.
With the victory, the Red Storm improve to 16-5 overall and remain undefeated in BIG EAST play at 4-0.
St. John's secured the doubles point after winning two of three matches. Following a Fordham win on the No. 1 court, Semen Agynskyy and Adam Groves evened the score with a 6-4 victory over Mateusz Gradzki and Will Lokier on the No. 3 court. Danilo Raicevic and Radomir Tomic then clinched the point with a 6-4 decision against Nicolas Garnier and Filip Horak at No. 2.
Leading 1-0, the Red Storm carried their momentum into singles play. Mats Pottbecker extended the advantage to 2-0 with a dominant 6-1, 6-1 win over Dhillon Virdee-Oakley on the No. 3 court. Groves followed with his second victory of the day, defeating Dhananjay Athreya, 6-4, 6-0, on the No. 5 court.
David Petrovic secured the match for St. John's with a hard-fought 6-3, 7-6 (7-3) victory over Gradzki on the No. 1 court.
With the win, the Red Storm improve to 9-0 all-time against Fordham.
St. John's will return to action for its regular season finale when it travels to Camden, S.C., to take on Elon. First serve from the Tennis Center of Camden will be announced at a later date.
