The Red Storm will enter the final weekend of the regular season in a three-way tie for first in the BIG EAST
PLYMOUTH MEETING, Pa. – The St. John's baseball team (28-22, 13-4 BIG EAST) dropped the regular season road finale to Villanova (18-28, 4-14 BIG EAST), 8-2, on Mother's Day at Villanova Park.
Despite the setback, the Red Storm secured the weekend series victory and locked up its spot in the 2026 BIG EAST Baseball Tournament at Prasco Park. The Johnnies will head into the final weekend of conference play in a three-way tie for first with Xavier and UConn in the race for the league's regular-season crown.
Ayden Frey led the St. John's offense with a 2-for-4 performance and scored a run, while Rob Mansour crossed the plate for the Red Storm's other tally. Jayder Raifstanger and Lewis Rodriguez each drove in a run in the loss.
On the mound, Victor Frederick got the start for the Johnnies, tossing 3.0 innings with three runs allowed and two strikeouts. Thomas Harding, Tyler Longoria, Dylan Johnson and Ian Mowad all appeared in relief.
The Wildcats jumped ahead early with three runs in the bottom of the first inning behind a pair of RBI singles to take a 3-0 lead.
Villanova added another run in the fourth before scoring two runs in both the fifth and sixth innings to stretch the advantage to 8-0.
The Wildcats held St. John's hitless through six innings before Frey broke up the no-hit bid with a single up the middle in the seventh. The Johnnies got on the board in the eighth when Raifstanger lifted a sacrifice fly with the bases loaded to score Mansour, 8-1.
St. John's plated a run in the ninth after Rodriguez lined a single through the left side to plate Frey from third, but Villanova secured the 8-2 victory in the Red Storm's final regular-season road game of the 2026 season.
The Red Storm will return home to host Butler for the final regular season series of the year, starting on Thursday, May 14. First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m. from Jack Kaiser Stadium on ESPN+.
