Mary Pat Beirne honored with Jack Kaiser Advocate Award
QUEENS, N.Y. – Alumni and friends of the St. John's baseball program spanning seven decades gathered on Monday, as the program hosted the Jack Kaiser Golf Classic for the first time since 2019.
The outing was held at The Woodside Club on Long Island with more than 80 golfers, including former players, alumni and friends of the program, hitting the course for an 18-hole round.
Following the golf outing, the group congregated for a cocktail hour and the presentation of the Jack Kaiser Advocate Award, the highest honor presented to an alumnus, benefactor, friend, parent or fan of St. John's Baseball. This year's recipient was Mary Pat Beirne. Over the course of four decades, the double St. John's alumna served her alma mater and the baseball program in various roles, most notably in alumni relations and institutional advancement.
Attendees were welcomed by the evening's emcee, Director of Athletic Communications Kevin Wehner, before Vice President and Director of Athletics Ed Kull offered remarks.
"It's an honor to be with this group," Kull said. "I'm really impressed and thankful for your leadership, generosity and support of the program."
Following Kull, Head Coach Mike Hampton spoke about the team's historic run to the Tuscaloosa Super Regional, improvements to Jack Kaiser Stadium and the importance of retaining players to maintain the tradition of the program.
After Hampton, Beirne was presented with the Jack Kaiser Advocate Award and gave her remarks.
"I'm deeply honored to be here today," said Beirne. "I'd like to thank Coach Hampton, Mike Barry, Ed Kull and the Alumni Committee for this incredible honor. Today has brought me such joy, celebrating our baseball program, the players, coaches and alumni, and remembering Coach Kaiser, our gentle giant. It means so much to me to be recognized with this very special award."
This spring was exceptionally successful for the St. John's baseball program, which captured both the BIG EAST Regular Season and Tournament titles before advancing to the Super Regional round for the first time since 2012. The Johnnies won the BIG EAST Tournament for the 11th time and captured their 10th BIG EAST Regular Season title. Seven players earned All-BIG EAST honors and the Red Storm's coaches were honored with the BIG EAST Coaching Staff of the Year Award.
