Kawan Lovelace

Lovelace is in his first year at St. John’s serving as a volunteer assistant coach with the track and field program. Before joining the Red Storm, Lovelace spent seven years as an assistant coach at nearby Archbishop Molloy High School in Briarwood.
Lovelace coached 14 All-Americans and five New York state champions in the triple jump, high jump and hurdles, leading to a multitude of Division I and Division II scholarships. Lovelace also mentored athletes and parents through the college selection process, including a review of NCAA requirements, accompanying families on official visits, etc.
A St. John’s alumnus, Lovelace is an accomplished athlete in his own right, competing in the 1995 World Championships and 1996 Olympic Games in the triple jump as a representative of the country of Belize. Lovelace also captured a win at the 1995 USA Junior National Championships in the triple jump.
Beyond athletics, Lovelace is a practicing attorney, earning his law degree from CUNY in 2019. Lovelace spent time in the District Attorney’s office for two years before moving into the private sector. Rounding out his various accomplishments, Lovelace is also a retired NYPD detective.
