St. Johns Track and Field Teams Earn Top-Ten Finishes

On the womens side, St. Johns got another strong performance from junior Alina Abramova (Armavir, Russia) who finished in the top 10 in both of her events. In the triple jump, Abramova scored a jump of 12.09m which placed her third and her jump of 5.40m was good enough for an eighth place finish in the long jump.
In the throwing events, St. Johns got another stellar performance from their sophomore tandem of Blessing Egwu (Queens, N.Y.) and Judy Owens (Brooklyn, N.Y.). Egwu and Owens were both able to earn spots in the top 10, when the finished seventh and eighth, respectively, in the event. Egwu finished with a toss of 11.68m and Owens not far behind with a throw of 11.22m.
Junior Judy Williams (Philadelphia, Pa.) also found herself near the top of the standings as she placed sixth in the 200-meter dash with a time of 25.10. In the 800 meters, sophomore Charlene Sealy (Brooklyn, N.Y.) finished with a time of 2:20.91, which gave her a ninth place finish in the event. Freshman Tarashon Broomes (Fairlawn, N.J.) ran one of her best races of the indoor season when she finished with a time of 1:21.45 in the 500 meter, which secured her a 10th place finish.
On the mens side it was senior Dietrech Washington (Nashua, N.H.) leading the way for the Red Storm. Washingtons toss of 14.51m placed him fifth in the shot put and he again found himself atop the leader board with a seventh place finish in the high jump, with a score of 1.96m. In other field events, freshman Jamiel Hendricks (Great Neck, N.Y.) earned himself a seventh place finish in the long jump with a score of 6.78m.
Juniors Sean Tremblay (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.), Andy Mitchell (Bronx, N.Y.) and Marc Crosswell (Elmont, N.Y.), all had impressive finishes for St. Johns. Tremblays time of 8:44.84 in the 3000m placed him sixth in the race, while Mitchells time of 1:56.32 in the 800 meter earned him a 10th place finish. Crosswells time of 4:15.54 in the mile run, earned him a top five spot as he finished fifth in the race. Also junior Dewayne Barrett (Brooklyn, N.Y.) and graduate student Ben Catalano (Carle Place, N.Y.) finished fourth and 10th, respectively in the 500 meter run.
In the relay races, the men and women both earned third place finishes in the 4X400 meters, with the men clocking a time of 3:17.05 and the women a time of 3:53.72. The men also finished second in the distance medley relay with a time of 10:10.33.
The St. Johns mens and womens track and field teams return to action on Saturday, February 1st when they travel back to the Armory to compete in the Metropolitan Championships.
