Jamaica, N.Y.- St. John's University (N.Y.) assistant track and field coach Peter Zinno will leave on March 1 for the World Indoor Championships in Budapest, Hungary where he will serve as head manager of the United States of America men's team. As head manager, he will assist in coaching, and serve as the chief administrator for the athletic delegation.
"This is a great opportunity for the University to have a staff member to be involved in such a world renown international event" said Zinno. "I am truly proud to represent our program here at St. John's."
Zinno is the 10th representative of the Red Storm track and field team that has either participated or coached in the World Championships. He follows former St. John's coaches Connie Hayes (U.S.A.) and Ken Bantum (Canada), in addition to former athletes Ian Roberts (Guyana), Chris Graff (U.S.A), Roman Linshceid (Ireland) and Kawan Lovelace (Belize) at the World Championships.
"It is great to keep the streak alive for members of our program to represent not only St. John's, but our country at such an important event" St. John's head track and field coach Jim Hurt added.
This is Zinno's fourth coaching assignment for U.S.A Track and Field at the World Indoor Championships. During his international coaching career, Zinno has also been a three-time assistant for the U.S. National Team at the Olympic Festival, in addition to the coach for the Jamaican and Great Britain Teams at the World University Games.
