Davis Named Most Outstanding Athlete at ECAC Championships

New Haven, Conn.- Several members of the St. John's University track and field team competed in the last day of the 2004 ECAC Outdoor Championships, held at Yale University. The Red Storm finished in 13th place out of more than 100 teams that participated with 25 points.
Senior Shernette Davis was named the 2004 ECAC Outdoor track and field Most Outstanding Athlete and champion in both the 100m (11.74) and 200m (23.59) dashes after placing first in both events on Sunday. Davis set four new facility records over the weekend, two in the 100m (11.66, 11.74) and two in the 200m (23.59, 24.05). In both events, Davis set two new St. John's records (100m-11.66/200m-23.59). The Red Storm track and field M.V.P. has now set nine school records for her career and has five Metropolitan titles, two ECAC titles and two BIG EAST runner up finishes under her belt. Davis will next compete in the NCAA Regionals in both the 100m and 200m Memorial Day weekend at the University of Florida in Gainesville, Fla.

Of the nine athletes that Coach Jim Hurt and his staff brought to the ECAC Championships, seven of those made it to the finals. Along with Davis (100m, 200m), Judy Williams (100m), Blessing Egwu (hammer throw), and Grace Zollman (javelin), earned ALL-EAST honors with their performances this past weekend. Egwu and Zollman have also qualified for the NCAA Regionals and will represent St. John's with Davis in two weeks.
