Blessing Egwu Wins Silver Medal In The Hammer Throw

PRINCETON, N.J. -Blessing Egwu (Queens, N.Y.) of the St. John's track and field team captured second place in the hammer throw at the ECAC Championships at the William Weaver Track and Field Stadium on the campus of Princeton University on Saturday. She hurled the weight 55.91 meters (183'5"). Egwu's second place finish also earned her All-ECAC honors for the second straight year.
In the javelin throw, Grace Zollman (Joseph, Ore.) launched the spear 40.12 meters (131'7") for 14th place.
On the track, Phobay Kutu-Akoi (Silver Spring, Md.) competed in the 100 meter dash, clocking in at 12.35 seconds for 20th place. In the 400 meter dash, Thalene King (Manchestar, Jamaica) crossed the line in 56.62 seconds for 15th place while Tarashon Broomes (Fair Lawn, N.J.) finished in a time of 59.17 seconds for 21st.
The 4x100 meter relay took home an 11th place finish, recording a 47.78 second performance.
The Red Storm finished in 26th place overall out of 46 teams, scoring 11 points.
St. John's returns to the track Thursday, May 18 at DaSilva Memorial Field when it hosts the Twilight Classic. The meet is slated to begin at 4:30 p.m.
