QUEENS, N.Y. - The Red Storm women's soccer team had four different players tally goals en route to a 4-1 win over Pittsburgh in BIG EAST action. St. John's improves to 7-1-2 (2-1-0 BIG EAST) with the win, while Pitt falls to 6-4-0 (1-2-0 BIG EAST).
In just the 7th minute the Red Storm got on the board as Kelly McConnell took a pass from Raelynne Lee and sent a chip shot over the head of Pitt keeper Alison Finch. In the 21st minute, the Red Storm made it 2-0. After Lee sent a corner kick in towards net, Krystle Jalalian fired a shot on goal. Finch made the save, but could not maintain possession. Tara Mendoza picked up the rebound and sent a header past Finch to tally her first career goal.
Less than two minutes later, Jalalian took a cross from McConnell and fired a shot past Finch from 12-yards out to give the Red Storm a 3-0 lead. For Jalalian, it was her team leading fifth goal of the season.
The Panthers had their first good scoring opportunity in the 63rd minute. After a St. John's foul gave Pitt a free kick from 22-yards out, Laura Berbert took advantage. Berbert beat Jaime Beran with a shot into the upper left corner.
The Red Storm extended the lead back to three, however, in the 78th minute. Lee sent a pass to Nicole Canning on the right side and Canning sent in a shot from 12-yards out to tally her first career goal.
This is the second time this season that the Red Storm has scored four goals in a game. The women beat Cornell 4-0 on September 2.
The women return to action with a BIG EAST home game against DePaul on October 5.
