St. John's advances to the third round of the WNIT for the first time in the program's history. In the 2004-05 season the team advanced as far as the second round.
Kia Wright hit the 1,500-point plateau with 16 points in the contest. She had a team-high seven assists and matched the team high with seven rebounds. The senior has scored in double-figures in 17 games this season.
Monique McLean scored a game-high 20 points, marking the eighth time this season she posted 20-plus points and the 18th time this season she led the team in scoring.
The Red Storm took a 27-25 lead into the locker room at halftime, increasing its record to 15-2 when leading after one period of play.
Kelly McManmon kept her streak of nailing at least one 3-pointer in a game alive with one from long distance tonight. She now has at least one trey in 22 consecutive games, dating back to Dec. 17.
St. John's held Iona to just 34.3 percent from the field, improving its record to 15-4 when holding opponents under 40 percent.
With one block in the game, senior Tiina Sten moved into a tie for fifth place in the all-time career blocks list with 92 swats.
