QUEENS, N.Y. - The St. John's lacrosse team held Siena scoreless in the fourth period, but the late game effort was not enough to stop the Saints as the Red Storm lost 12-3, Tuesday afternoon on DaSilva Memorial Field.
Red Storm junior midfielder, Dom DeNapoli scored his first goal of the season, while junior Drew Schanen and senior Tom Michaelsen added one goal to their season totals of two and three, respectively.
Saints' attackman and MAAC Preseason Player of the Year, Matt Girsh, scored a season-high five goals in the contest.
With the loss, the Red Storm is 0-7 on the season, while the Saints advance to 6-2 overall.
Michaelsen's goal a minute and half into the second period shortened Siena's lead to three goals, after the Saints had scored four unanswered goals in the first quarter.
The Saints came back with two more goals before DeNapoli answered back, picking up a ground ball from Jack Rosson's face-off and taking it to the net to cut into the Saints' five goal lead.
Girsh scored four goals in the second and third period along with a goal from Kenny Mazzone and Mike Lashomb to tally 12 Siena goals.
Schanen scored the lone goal of the fourth quarter off an assist by junior Tom Manes.
