COLLEGE STATION, Texas - St. John's sophomore standout Priscilla Frederick finished 14th overall in the high jump at the NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships hosted by Texas A&M from March 13-15.
"We're really proud of Priscilla, she's had a pretty outstanding indoor season," said head coach Jim Hurt. "She's had six straight weeks of national caliber performances, starting from the Metropolitan Championships in January and ending here at the NCAAs."
Frederick, the youngest athlete in the event, cleared the bar at 1.75 meters (5 feet, 10 inches).
"Priscilla competes great every weekend," remarked Hurt. "The experience is really going to help her step up and become one of America's best high jumpers. It was a really great experience for all of us."
The NCAA Indoor Championships capped off the sophomore's impressive season and paves the way for the outdoor season which starts next weekend.
In January, Frederick defended her Metropolitan Championship title in the high jump with a jump of 1.78 meters (5 feet, 10 inches). She also competed in the indoor pentathlon where she hit a height of 1.80 meters (5 feet, 10.75 inches) in the high jump.
Following her Metropolitan Championship run, Frederick finished third at the BIG EAST Indoor Championships (1.78 meters) and was the runner up at the ECACs, with a career-best height of 1.82 meters (5 feet, 11.50 inches). She earned All-BIG EAST and All-ECAC/ East accolades. In between regular conference competition, the sophomore traveled to Boston, Mass., to compete at the USA Track & Field National Championships. Frederick competed against the nation's top talent and finished sixth overall with a height of 1.80 meters (5 feet, 10.75 inches).
