QUEENS, N.Y. - St. John's sophomore Priscilla Frederick finished 16th in the high jump at the NCAA's hosted by University of Arkansas in Fayetteville, Ark.
Frederick, making her second appearance at the Outdoor NCAA Championships in as many years, and her second showing at an NCAA Championship this season, finished tied for ninth in her flight in the high jump preliminaries on Wednesday evening.
The Sicklerville, N.J., native finished her run at the NCAA Championship with a final height of 1.74 meters (5 feet, 8.5 inches), tied with Raevan Harris, a senior from Auburn.
Overall, six competitors tied at the 1.74 meter-height. Only 12 of the 25 competitors are selected to advance to Friday's high jump finals. The final 12 all met the height of 1.77 meters (5 feet, 9.75 inches).
"We're really proud of Priscilla. She competed hard and basically muscled her way over the first two heights, which was very impressive," said head coach Jim Hurt. "Priscilla is a great competitor and had a really great year and we're excited for all of her accomplishments so far. We're hoping to get one more meet out of her this year if we can. If not, we are really looking forward to what she can do next year, with two years of national competition under her belt."
Frederick has been entered into the high jump competition at the USA Track & Field Senior National in Eugene, Ore., on June 25-28. Currently, she is ranked ninth on the entry list.
"Hopefully, everything will come together for us at Nationals," remarked Hurt. "Priscilla's been competing through a heel injury and we hope for it to be healed up by then. We both feel that she can get higher and hit that 1.84-meter height. She's definitely capable of that 6-foot jump."
