St. John's Sweeps Bryant, 7-0

QUEENS, N.Y. - The St. John's men's tennis team swept Bryant, 7-0 at the North Shore Tennis Center in Queens on Saturday, leaving just one match remaining in the regular season before heading to the BIG EAST Championships next week. The match, played on a clay surface, was the first 7-0 sweep for the Red Storm since April 1.
St. John's improves to 10-11 on the season with the win.
St. John's swept the doubles point with wins at No. 1, 2, & 3. Pavel Cerny and Milo Hauk downed Cristian Baletrieri and Juan Paredes, 8-4 at No. 1. Teammates Asaf Honig and Derek Wallensteen got the win, 8-3, at No. 2 against Nicholai Hill and Tom Nowak, while Mike Lampa and Stefan Bojic finished up with an 8-3 win over Andres Orobitg and Dan Cournoyer.
Hauk earned the win over Balerstrieri in straight sets at No. 1 singles, 6-3, 6-3 for a 2-0 St. John's lead. Hauk now has 12 victories on the year. Playing just his second match at No. 2, Mike Lampa defeated Paredes, 6-3, 6-1 for the third St. John's point and his 16th victory this season.
At No. 3, Bojic won his 11th match of the season with a straight-set, 6-2, 6-1 win against Hill. Martin Kosut defeated Nowak at No. 4 to rise above .500 on the year with a 6-4, 6-3 victory.
No. 5 Wallensteen earned the sixth point for St. John's with a 6-3, 6-3 defeat of Orobitg and newcomer Dustin Goldenberg finished off at No. 6 with a 6-0, 6-2 victory against Cournoyer for the 7-0 sweep for St. John's.
The Red Storm will prepare for the BIG EAST Championship, which begins on Thursday, April 22 in South Bend, Ind., after a meeting with Stony Brook on Monday in Queens. The match is slated for 3 p.m.
