POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. - The St. John's men's tennis team fell to Marist, 4-3 o the road on Wednesday after a late comeback in the match. Freshman Mike Lampa won his 14th match of the season against the Red Foxes to compile a 14-2 record thus far. Teammate Asaf Honig notched his ninth win of the season in the match to improve to 9-5 on the year. The Red Storm moves to 8-11 on the season.
Marist took the doubles point for a 1-0 lead in the match before the Red Storm took over for the lead.
Lampa finished first with a 6-1, 6-1 straight-set win over Nicolas Pisecky at No. 4 and Honig captured the No. 2 match, 6-2, 6-3 against Loic Sessagesmim to take the 2-1 advantage in the match.
Marist took the No. 5 match between Stefan Bojic and Matt Himmelsbach to tie it again at 2-2. Pavel Cerny claimed the final point for St. John's with a 6-1, 6-4 win at No. 3 over Joris Van Eck. The Red Foxes went on to win the No. 1 and No. 6 singles matches to earn the 4-3 win.
The Red Storm returns to action on Thursday, April 8 in Queens when it takes on Concordia (NY) at 3 p.m.
