St. John's Hosts Annual Monday Meeting

QUEENS, N.Y. - The St. John's track & field team honored the program's 10 seniors at its annual Monday Meeting at DaSilva Memorial Track on Monday night.
The 2011 senior class is one of the most decorated in recent Red Storm history with one two-time All-American, seven All-BIG EAST honorees and five school record-holders.
Seniors Kim Piard, Vanessa Thompson, Rene Cousins, Bintou Dibba, Lauren Wynter, Sarah Sudbury, Lori Dougherty, Pamela Petruski, Katrina Schaefer and Priscilla Frederick all received pictures and flowers from Head Coach Jim Hurt, Senior Associate Athletics Director for Administration John Diffley and Director of Athletics Chris Monasch.
"We are so proud of all of the hard work and dedication that this special group has dedicated to our program," Hurt said. "This event was the perfect opportunity to honor them for their numerous contributions."
Outside of the senior ceremony, St. John's competed against several area schools on the track and in the field, winning nine different events.
Junior Chanel King set a career-best distance in the shot put and qualified for the ECAC championships with a top distance of 13.90 meters. Freshman Natasha Amazan placed third in the event (12.60 meters), freshman Danette Hinton finished fourth (11.40 meters), freshman Angela Onye placed fifth (10.85 meters) and freshman Gina Frisa came in seventh (10.40 meters).
Sophomore Rikka Lovely took first place in the 100 meters, crossing the line in 12.48 seconds and tying her season-best performance. Freshman Maya Lewis came in fourth in the event with a time of 13.02 seconds.
Freshman Corrine Williams led the pack in the 200-meter dash, finishing with a time of 25.84 seconds. Classmate Brittany Petersen finished seventh with a time of 28.10.
Junior Nicole Cocozza took first place in the 800 meter race with a time of 2:20.15. She was followed by classmate Samantha Meyerhoff who finished second in 2:27.22. Freshman Chelsea Trant also took first place in the 1,500 meters (4:57.78).
In the 400-meter dash, Wynter led the Red Storm pack by crossing the line in second place with a time of 59.37 seconds. Sudbury finished directly behind her with a time of 1:00.39 and sophomore Alexis Bean took fourth in 1:00.79. Aryon Trujillo finished sixth with a time of 1:03.79.
The Red Storm won the 400-meter hurdles as Thompson placed first with a time of 1:05.56.
In the jumps, Dibba won the long jump with a distance of 5.60 meters, while sophomore Stephanie Barnes came in second with a distance of 5.54 meters.
St. John's will travel back to Rutgers University this weekend to compete in the Outdoor Metropolitan Championships on Saturday, April 16.
