Panik Grabs Louisville Slugger Third Team All-America Accolades

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. - Junior shortstop Joe Panik has garnered Louisville Slugger third team All-America accolades as announced today by Collegiate Baseball Newspaper. St. John's has now had at least one All-American in four-straight seasons.
A first team All-BIG EAST selection, Panik leads St. John's (35-20) in average (.402), runs (59), home runs (9), slugging percentage (.645) and on-base percentage (.513), a category in which he also ranks 12th in the country. One of 30 semifinalists for the Golden Spikes Award, Panik finished the regular season ranked in the top ten in the BIG EAST in nearly every offensive category, including average (tied for first), one-base percentage (first), slugging percentage (second), runs (tied for second), total bases (tied for second), RBI (fourth), walks (tied for fourth), home runs (tied for fifth), doubles (tied for seventh) and stolen bases (eighth).
Panik leads the Red Storm with 30 multi-hit games and also has 13 multi-RBI games, including a pair of six-RBI performances and one five-RBI contest.
The shortstop was named to the BIG EAST All-Tournament Team after batting .471 (8-for-17) with three multi-hit games, two doubles, three RBI, four stolen bases and a .583 on-base percentage and is also on the watchlist for the Brooks Wallace Award, presented annually to the nation's top shortstop.
St. John's opens play in its 33rd NCAA Tournament appearance, an amount that ranks tied for eighth all-time, at 6 p.m. on June 3 against East Carolina.
