Princeton, N.J. -
Every St. John's competitor that traveled to Princeton University for the ECAC Championships earned a top-eight All-East finish to amass 18 points and place the Red Storm 21st out of the 46 schools entered.
"It was an awesome ECAC Championship, probably one the best we've ever had," said head track & field coach Jim Hurt. "Everyone we brought earned All-East honors. We are very pleased with the way the team competed and I am proud of the preparation that the entire coaching staff put in. I hope it sends a message that St. John's can compete at the highest level in track & field."
The 4x100-meter relay team stood out from early on as Rikka Lovely, Corrine Williams, Trudy-Ann McLean and Priscilla Frederick qualified for the finals with a 46.25 second time. The group then proceeded to run the second-fastest 4x100-meter time in St. John's history at 45.95 to place fifth. Lovely also finished in the top-eight in both the 100 and 200-meter dashes despite batting injuries over the weekend. She placed eighth in the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.99 seconds and seventh in the 200-meter dash at 24.99 seconds. Williams ran a 12.36 in the 100-meters and 24.58 second time in the 200.
St. John's was well represented in the throwing events as Chanel King placed seventh in the hammer throw and Natasha Amazan placed sixth in the shot put. King threw 54.54 meters and Amazan threw a personal-best of 14.63 meters, which shattered her previous record by nearly two feet.
Priscilla Frederick finished fourth in the high jump with a mark of 1.75 meters. It gives Frederick her fourth outdoor All-East performance in the high jump over her St. John's career.
The 4x800-meter relay team of Alexis Bean, Nicole Cocozza, Michelle Duffy and Aryon Trujillo qualified for the finals with a 9:06.76 time. Unfortunately due to Sunday's graduation, the Red Storm had to replace seniors Cocozza and Trujillo for the final heat with two 800-meter novices, McLean and Claire Mooney. The four actually ended up improving upon the preliminary time and placed seventh overall at 9:04.73. McLean also ran the 400-meters in 57.18 seconds and Mooney ran 57.29 seconds as well.
Frederick will be competing in the NCAA Regional Championships from May 24-May 26 at the University of North Florida. King and Amazan may also join her at the regional event depending on the announcement of the final field.
