Queens, N.Y. - Joining recent St. John's graduate Priscilla Frederick at the Olympic Trials in Eugene, Ore. will be former Red Storm track & field student-athlete Grace Zollman who will compete in the javelin.
"We are very excited that Grace is competing at the trials in the javelin," said track & field head coach Jim Hurt. "She was a walk-on from Joseph, Ore. and will now be competing with the best throwers in the nation for an Olympic team spot. Having Grace and Priscilla competing in the Olympic trials is indicative of the hard work each has put in and the ability of our program to develop national class athletes."
Zollman will be making her second appearance at an Olympic Trials after having competed in the javelin in 2008. Her top mark coming into the trials is 51.89 meters which ranks 21st on the entry list.
The javelin preliminary competition begins at 2:30 p.m. on Friday, June 29. The top 12 athletes will advance to the finals on Sunday, July 11 at 2:45 p.m. A throw of 55.00 meters or better will automatically qualify for the finals.
With an all-time best mark of 46.12 meters, Zollman holds the St. John's record in the javelin throw. She was outdoor All-BIG EAST and All-East in 2004 as a member of the Red Storm.
