Red Storm Contingent Competes At Stony Brook Wolfie Invitational

Stony Brook, N.Y. - St. John's track & field took the weekend to rest its top sprinters, but the remainder of the squad got some valuable experience at the Stony Brook Wolfie Invitational on Saturday, April 20 as the team enters the home stretch of its outdoor schedule.
"Our ladies competed well in our final tune-up before the Penn Relays next weekend in Philadelphia," said head coach Jim Hurt. "Our team effort today indicates that we have much to look forward to in the upcoming major meets of the season."
Despite the partial squad, St. John's was still able to accumulate 44 points and finish seventh out of ten teams.
The Red Storm continued to receive strong performances in the field events as the group pushes toward championship season. Freshman Ann Dagrin earned herself a BIG EAST qualifying mark with a fourth-place hammer throw of 46.67 meters. LaTreace Johnson barely missed the BIG EAST qualifying mark in the discus with a second-place distance of 39.20 meters. Danette Hinton slotted fourth with a 34.16 meter toss. Johnson also finished fifth in the shot put with an 11.18 meter throw, while Gina Frisa threw 10.34 meters. Stephanie Barnes jumped to fourth with a 5.02 meter long jump mark, as Frisa registered a 4.36 meter distance. Adara Simonelli placed ninth in the javelin at 33.53 meters and Frisa launched a 23.49 meter effort.
Michelle Duffy made a strong push in the 1500-meter run as she raced to a fourth-place time of 4:47.58. Kerri Butler posted a 2:19.37 in the 800-meters to earn points for sixth-place while teammate Alexis Bean ran 2:26.07 in the event.
In the sprints, Maya Lewis took fourth-place in the 100-meter dash with a time of 12.77 seconds. Shenika King had an identical fourth-place finish at 26.11 seconds in the 200-meter dash. Lewis also went top-eight in the 200-meters meters as she clocked in 26.27 seconds for seventh. Corrine Williams posted a ninth-place finish at 26.55 seconds and Ariel Gordon crossed one spot behind at 27.04 seconds. Pariis Garcia ran 1:00.68 for 13th in the 400-meter dash and Michelle Van Pelt also got a chance in the 400-meter event and finished in 1:00.68 for 14th. Tiffany Evanego ran 1:02.34 to place 20th.
Britney McLennon was solid in the 100-meter hurdles as she placed sixth at 16.37 seconds. Frisa finished 12th with a 19.06 second split. Autumn Edgar recorded a 1:08.52 time in the 400-meter hurdles to place third.
