QUEENS, N.Y. - After recording one of the finest seasons in St. John's Women's Soccer history in 2015, Rachel Daly has been named to the 2015 Academic All-America Team, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
Daly, who earned on spot on the Academic All-America Second Team, becomes the fourth player in the history of St. John's Women's Soccer to garner the distinction from CoSIDA. Amanda Pasciolla found a second team spot in 2009, while Kelly McConnell and Nicole Pasciolla received third team bids in 2009 and 2010, respectively.
In 2015, Daly cemented her legacy as one of the program's all-time greats and one of the nation's premier talents. Her 19 goals currently rank third in the nation and are the second highest total in a single season in program history. Daly also holds the top spot on that list, having led the nation in scoring as a sophomore in 2013 with 23 goals.
The senior from Harrogate, England, recorded five multi-goal games in 2015, including the third hat trick of her career against Creighton on Oct. 11. Following the conclusion of the regular season, Daly was named the BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Year for the second time in her career and earned a nod to the All-BIG EAST First Team for the third time in her three year tenure with the Red Storm.
Daly shattered the program career records for goals and points as a senior, finishing with 50 and 111, respectively. Daly's 50 goals tied the overall St. John's Soccer record, as Huey Ferguson, a two-time All-American and BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Year, scored 50 for the men's side from 1991-94. Daly accomplished the same feat in just three years.
Despite her earth-shattering numbers in 2015, perhaps Daly's greatest collegiate accomplishment came in the form of the success that her team accomplished under her leadership. The 2015 team set a single-season program record for wins with a mark of 15-4-1, including a 7-1-1 showing in conference play. That effort allowed the Red Storm to take home the BIG EAST Regular Season Championship for the first in program history. In the title-clinching game against Providence, Daly scored off a header in the 89th minute to give St. John's a decisive 1-0 lead.
In addition to her success on the pitch, Daly has also excelled in the classroom and is on track to graduate with honors following the semester with a degree in sports management.
