QUEENS, N.Y. - The accolades continue to roll in for the most prolific goal scorer in the history of St. John's Women's Soccer, as Rachel Daly has been named a semifinalist for the MAC Hermann Trophy.
Daly, a two-time selection to the preseason watch list for the nation's most prestigious individual honor, becomes the first player in program history to be named a semifinalist. The Harrogate, England, native is one of 15 players still eligible for the award, finding her name in cohort with the most talented players from the NCAA's most respected programs.
This season, Daly cemented her legacy as the greatest player in the history of St. John's Women's Soccer, scoring 19 goals and dishing out five assists on the year. Her 19 tallies ranked third in the NCAA, while her point total was good enough for sixth place in the nation. Her nine game-winning goals were second in the NCAA only behind Cal State Fullerton's Rebecca Wilson, a fellow semifinalist.
Daly was named to the All-BIG EAST First Team for the third year in a row and took home BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Year honors for the second time in her illustrious career. She was also named BIG EAST Newcomer of the Year in 2013.
As a team, the Red Storm recorded its finest season in team history under Daly's leadership, reaching the NCAA Tournament behind a school-record 15 wins and claiming the program's first-ever BIG EAST Regular Season Championship thanks to a 7-1-1 showing in conference play. In those nine conference games, Daly netted 12 goals.
Daly finished her St. John's career with a program records for goals (50) and points (111). Her 50 goals tied her for first place in St. John's Soccer history, incorporating both the men's or women's teams. Huey Ferguson a two-time All-American and BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Year recorded 50 for the men's side from 1991-94. Daly accomplished the same feat in just three seasons.
