Aviza, Bernardi, Garziano and Paradis all sign National Letters of Intent
St. John's Head Women's Soccer Coach Ian Stone and the Johnnies announced the signings of four student-athletes for the upcoming season.
Isabelle Aviza, Grace Bernardi, Jessica Garziano and Grace Paradis compromise the four-player class, which will suit up for the Red Storm beginning in the fall of 2019.
Bernardi and Garziano, a pair of midfielders from Long Island, played essential roles during their high school careers. Both Bernardi and Garziano earned a spot on Newsday's All-Long Island Girls First Team in 2017.
Bernardi, a four-year varsity player, joins the Red Storm from Massapequa High School as a defensive-minded midfielder. As a junior, Bernardi helped the Chiefs to their fifth-consecutive Long Island Class AA Title and the team's fifth-straight appearance in the New York State final. The St. John's-bound midfielder was named an All-American by the United Soccer Coaches Association in 2017 after recording four goals and two assists to help anchor a defense that recorded seven clean sheets on the year. In addition, Bernardi is a two-time Top Drawer Fall State Star (2017, 2018).
Bernardi currently plays club soccer for Massapequa SC. Prior to her time with Massapequa, the local product played for SUSA FC alongside fellow new comer Garziano.
Garziano has enjoyed a number of accolades during her high school career at Half Hallow Hills East, earning two all-state nods (2017, 2018), according to the New York State Sportswriters and Coaches Organization for Girls. In addition, Garziano was recognized by Newsday as one of the top-50 Long Island female soccer players in 2017. Over her four seasons of varsity action, Garziano compiled 25 goals and 17 assists. The dynamic midfielder was a driving force behind her team's most recent run to the Suffolk Class AA semifinals.
Garziano spent her last three seasons playing club soccer for SUSA FC. In August of 2018 SUSA FC was one of three clubs to join the Girls Elite Clubs National League (ECNL), one of the nation's top development and competition platforms for female soccer players.
Stone will be adding another scoring threat in Aviza. The forward from Medway, Mass., played two years of varsity soccer at Medway High School, recording a total 15 goals. During her time playing for the Mustangs, Aviza helped her team reach the State Championship both seasons.
On the club circuit, Aviza suited up three seasons for the Development Academy NEFC U-18/19 team. Aviza recorded 14 goals in her most recent season, to rank first overall in the nation for the Development Academy. Last season, Aviza earned 22 starts and registered a total 22 goals for the Development Academy.
Stone will also be bringing in a highly-decorated midfielder in Paradis. Hailing from Kingston, N.H., Paradis was a three-year honors student at Sanborn Regional High School. As a senior, Paradis earned the Sanborn Regional High School Presidential Award.
The Kingston, N.H., native played as an attacking midfielder for both the Boston Breakers NEFC (ECNL) and the FC Stars (Development Academy) U-18/19 club teams. In her most recent season with the FC Stars, Paradis started in all 19 games that she played in, recording a trio of goals for her team.
