Bellero, Cagnina and Kajan recognized by Top Drawer Soccer
Three members of the St. John's women's soccer team carved out spots in the Top Drawer Soccer Postseason Top-20 Conference Rankings list. Seniors Christina Bellero and Claudia Cagnina along with redshirt sophomore Zsani Kajan were all recognized for their stellar efforts over the 2018 campaign.
Â
The trio of Johnnies played an influential role in St. John's successful 2018 season, helping the Red Storm earn a berth to the BIG EAST Tournament for the 15th time in program history. For their efforts on the regular season, Kajan earned a spot on the All-BIG EAST First Team, while Bellero and Cagnina received a nod to the All-BIG EAST Second Team.
Â
Kajan capped off the year as the team's leading scorer, recording 11 goals in 19 starts. The Budapest native also dished out a pair of assists for a team-high 24 points. With 11 tallies on the year, Kajan tied for the second most in the conference and ranked inside the top-30 on the national level at the conclusion of the regular season.
Â
In addition, Kajan's double-digit scoring made her just the seventh Johnnie in program history to record 10 or more goals in a single season.
Â
Bellero played an integral part in the Johnnies' attack this past season. The senior from Mellville, N.Y., finished the 2018 campaign with a total of six goals, good enough for second best on the team. In addition, Bellero dished out four assists for a combined 16 points, just one shy of her career-high 17.
The local product has recorded a combined 20 goals and 51 points over four seasons with the Red Storm to rank inside the top-10 for the St. John's women's soccer program in both statistical categories.
Â
A highly-touted talent out of Lindenhust, N.Y., Cagnina played substantial minutes for the Red Storm, starting in all 19 matches over the course of the 2018 season. Cagnina's pinnacle moment of the year came on Sept. 2 against Stony Brook, as the senior dished out a career-high three assists, just one off the program record set by Jennifer Contesini in 1995, and again by Marissa Stork in 1999.
