St. John's Shines at Wagner College Invitational

QUEENS, N.Y. - With half of the team breaking multiple career bests in Florida, the other half of the St. John's track and field team was following suit with another sparkling performance at the Wagner College Invitational over the weekend.
St. John's saw a trio of student-athletes win titles at the meet while another eight competitors reached the podium in a dazzling day of track and field.
Destiny Davis became the first Red Storm to climb to the top of the podium with her victory in the 200-meter dash. The sophomore's time of 25.25 was just off her career best set at the BIG EAST Indoor Championships this past February and was the only competitor to crack the 25 second mark.
In the 400-meter hurdles, Jasmine Burkett won her first title of the outdoor season with a 1:03.52 time. The senior dropped nearly two seconds off her time from the team's previous outing in Philadelphia.
Jariah McFadden turned in her best performance of her young career in the same event, finishing second with a career-best 1:06.34 before also eclipsing a new best in the 200-meter dash at 27.62.
Amarys Berry became the third competitor to claim a title for the Johnnies with a 12.75-meter toss in the shot put. The sophomore's top throw came on the final of the event, just defeating teammate Bernadette McGowan and Brianna Hayes who finished second and fourth, respectively.
After finishing fifth in the 100-meter dash, Beverly Val-Addo posted a career-best 27.32 in the 200-meter event to finish seventh. It was the first outdoor run in the event for the freshman, eclipsing her previous top time from the Penn 8-Team Select in January.
Shannon Page continued to improve in the 400-meter dash as the season moves along, setting a new career best in the event with a 1:01.06 time to finish third. The finish marks the second time in the junior's career that she has reached the podium in the event.
Antonia Howard headlined a multitude of top-10 finishers for the Johnnies in the 800-meter run, finishing third at 2:26.74. Howard was joined by Leah Rivers (2:27.51), Stephanie Gerland (2:30.49), Therese Gallagher (2:30.53), Jackie Gallagher (2:31.75), and Melissa Hidalgo (2:32.24) in the top-10.
Howard and company followed with another strong performance in the 1500-meter run, claiming a pair of podium spots and four additional spots in the top-10. The junior posted a second-place finish and was joined by Gerland's career-best 4:59.08 time for third.
Nicole McCarthy finished just outside the top-10 in the 800-meter and grabbed ninth in the 1500-meter runs, posting career-best times in both events.
Esmarelda Reyes also eclipsed a new best in the shot put with an 8.95-meter throw to finish 21st. The freshman also ran fifth in the 100-meter hurdles and finished 16th in the long jump.
Jazmin Acosta reached the podium in the long jump finals with a 4.79-meter best to finish third and was the senior's second-best mark of the outdoor season.
Olivia Pantale became the final Johnnie to earn a medal with another career best for the red and white. The sophomore finished second in the discus throw with a 39.46-meter toss to eclipse her previous best by nearly two meters.
St. John's returns to action on April 13 and 14 for the 2018 Metropolitan Outdoor Championships, hosted by Rutgers University, in Piscataway, N.J.
