St. John’s to Welcome Stony Brook for Sunday Night Tilt

QUEENS, N.Y. (Sept. 1, 2018) – Coming off of a 2-1 loss to Drexel on Thursday evening, the Johnnies return home where they will look to remain undefeated this season at Belson Stadium as they host local foe Stony Brook on Sunday at 7 p.m.
The contest will be streamed live on ESPN3, available on WatchESPN.com and the Watch ESPN app. Ralph Bednarczyk and Erin Fish will be on the call from Queens.
During Sunday's contest, the St. John's women's soccer team will pair up with the Go4theGoal foundation to raise funds and generate awareness for pediatric cancer. Each of the athletes will be sporting a pair of gold laces as a representation for those children battling cancer.
The Johnnies enter Sunday's match with a 2-3 record after falling to Drexel, 2-1, on Thursday evening. The Dragons controlled the early portion of the match, recording a pair of goals in the opening half. Zsani Kajan helped St. John's get on the board in the 88th minute off a penalty kick. With her third tally in just five matches, the redshirt sophomore has already surpassed her goal total from 2017.
Jordan Kamp saw action between the pipes for the second time this season for the Red Storm. In 45 minutes of play, the redshirt sophomore recorded a season-high five stops to hold Drexel scoreless during the second half.
Stony Brook comes to Queens with an identical record of 2-3, having most recently lost on the road to Boston College on Wednesday by a score of 3-0. The Seawolves' two victories of the 2018 campaign came against Oregon State, 2-1, in their second contest of the season on Aug. 19 and BIG EAST foe Seton Hall, 1-0, on Aug. 26. Sophomore Alyssa Francese has paced the Seawolves offensively this season, recording two of the team's four goals. Senior Julie Johnstonbaugh and Freshman Mari Brenden have each chipped in a shot for Stony Brook.
The Red Storm and Stony Brook share a series history dating back to 1987. In 22 all-time meetings between the two schools, St. John's holds a 12-7-3 advantage over the Seawolves. The teams last met in 2015, when Rachel Daly broke a scoreless tie in the 80th minute to secure a 1-0 victory for the Johnnies at Stony Brook.
