No. 10 Georgetown Tops St. John’s, 3-0, on Sunday Afternoon

Kajan and Cabrera tally a team-high three shots
Despite holding No. 10 ranked Georgetown scoreless in the opening 39 minutes of play, the St. John's women's soccer team fell to the Hoyas, 3-0, in Sunday's BIG EAST home opener at Belson Stadium.
The Johnnies played even with Georgetown for most of the first half before Caitlin Farrell broke a scoreless deadlock in the 39th minute. Just six minutes later, the Hoyas added another tally off a penalty kick from Carson Nizialek to give Georgetown a 2-0 advantage at the intermission.
Zsani Kajan and Maia Cabrera led the Red Storm (4-6-0, 0-1-0 BIG EAST), each recording a trio shots on the day. Both Kajan and Cabrera had a pair of strikes on target.
Senior Christina Bellero also gave a stellar effort for the Red Storm, recording a duo of shots on the afternoon, both of which were on target. The senior from Mellville, N.Y. recorded the first attempt towards goal of the game in the 16th minute off a through ball from Kajan. The local product saw a golden opportunity as she powered a strike to the right corner of the cage but the Georgetown goalkeeper Arielle Schechtman turned away the point-blank try.
Freshman Michelle Money also added a shot to the stat sheet for St. John's.
Despite the loss, the Red Storm had control in the early minutes of the match. The Johnnies owned a 5-3 advantage on shots at the intermission, including a trio of dangerous tries on target from Bellero and Kajan.
The Red Storm continued to battle following the first half, but still proved unable to find the back of the net. Bellero recorded another brilliant try, with a power shot to the bottom left corner of the cage in the 60th minute, but Arielle was there on the stop.
Georgetown (8-0-2, 1-0-0 BIG EAST) put the game out of reach with 10 minutes left in the second stanza as Farrell found the back of the net for the second time on the afternoon to give the Hoyas a 3-0 win.
St. John's returns to action on Thursday when the team travels to Omaha, Neb., for a showdown with BIG EAST foe Creighton, kickoff is set for 8 p.m. ET.
