St. John’s Loses Spring Opener to Brown, 4-0

In its first spring match of the season, the St. John's men's tennis team lost a tough battle to Brown University (1-0) on the road, 4-0, Saturday morning. St. John's (0-1) took all four of its singles matches to a deciding third set but was unable to take victories in three of them, giving the Bears a 4-0 victory.
In doubles action, Brown was able to corral the Johnnies as the Bears swept St. John's in all three matches. Playing at the No. 1 position, defending Co-BIG EAST Player of the Year, Alan Nunez Aguilera paired with Aditya Vashistha. The pair forced a tiebreaker but would go on to drop the match 7-6(4) to Ching Lam and Peter Litsky.
Brown won singles matches at the No. 1, No. 2 and No. 4 positions to secure a victory over the Johnnies.
At the No. 1 spot, senior Luka Sucevic was in a tough battle against Litsky. After winning the first set six games to three, Litsky battled back to win the second set, 6-4. In the deciding third set, Sucevic lost in dramatic fashion in a tiebreaker, 7-6(2).
Senior Andrei Crapcenco won the first set in his No. 2 singles match against Ching Lam, 6-4. The No.2 match ended in similar fashion to the No. 1 match as Lam defeated Crapcenco in three sets, (6-4, 3-6, 7-5).
In the No. 3 match, Aguilera went unfinished at the No. 3 spot, battling tough against Roger Chen, (7-6(2), 0-6, 4-5).
In the deciding match, Vashistha took the first set against Charles Tan, 7-6(6), Tan proved to be too much to handle as he won the last two sets and the match, (7-6(6), 6-3, 6-4).
St. John's returns to action on Friday at 7 p.m. as the host Boston College at the National Tennis Center in Flushing, N.Y.
