For the first time this spring season, the St. John's men's tennis team will host matches in Queens this weekend when they welcome Boston College on Friday followed by Marist on Sunday.
St. John's and Boston College will square off at 8:30 p.m. inside Flusing's National Tennis Center. Two days later, the Johnnies host the Marist Red Foxes at 1 p.m. in Cunningham Park.
Both the Eagles and the Red Foxes will be making their spring season debuts this weekend when they face the Johnnies.
This is the first matchup between St. John's and Boston College since the 2004-05 season, the final campaign in which the Eagles were members of the BIG EAST Conference.
Since the turn of the last decade, the Red Storm has posted a 28-16 (.636) mark against teams from the state of New York, including wins in its previous four meetings against programs from the Empire State.
The Johnnies and Red Foxes were scheduled to play the final match of the spring season in 2018, but Mother Nature had different plans, as inclement weather canceled their meeting.
Last Saturday, the St. John's men's tennis team lost a tough battle to Brown University (1-0) on the road, 4-0, its first spring match of the season. St. John's (0-1) took all four of its singles matches to a decisive third set, but was unable to take victories in three of them, giving the Bears a 4-0 victory.
At the no. 1 spot, senior Luka Sucevic dropped a decision against Brown's Peter Litsky. After Sucevic won the first set, 6-3, Litsky battled back to win the second set, 6-4. In the decisive third set, Sucevic lost in dramatic fashion, 7-6 (2).
Senior Andrei Crapcenco won the first set in his no. 2 singles match against Ching Lam, 6-4. The match ended in similar fashion to the top-seeded match, as Lam defeated Crapcenco in three sets, (4-6, 6-3, 7-5).
In the no. 3 match, Alan Nunez Aguilera went unfinished, battling tough against Roger Chen, (7-6(2), 0-6, 4-5).
In the deciding match, Aditya Vashistha took the first set against Charles Tan, 7-6(6), Tan proved to be too much to handle as he won the last two sets and the match, (6-7(6), 6-3, 6-4).
Coach Pottish's squad will travel to Loundonville, N.Y. on Friday morning to face Siena after they complete its two-match home stand this weekend.
