The St. John's women's basketball team returns to action on Friday evening when the Johnnies kick off a four-game homestand against Georgetown at Carnesecca Arena.
Â
The game, which is set to tip at 7 p.m., will be live streamed on the BIG EAST Digital Network (BEDN) via FOX Sports Go. Ralph Bednarcyzk and Mike Watts will be on the call from Queens.
Â
Eager to end a five-game slide, the Johnnies return to the comfy confines of Carnesecca Area, where they will take on the Hoyas for the 63rd all-time meeting. The Red Storm enters Friday's contest with an 18-11 all-time record against Georgetown (9-9, 3-4 BIG EAST) in Queens.Â
Â
St. John's (8-10, 1-6 BIG EAST) is coming off a grueling two-game BIG EAST road stretch, as the Johnnies ventured into hostile arenas to face a pair of nationally-ranked programs in then-No. 24/24 DePaul and No.14/13 Marquette. Despite finishing shorthanded against both nationally-ranked opponents, the Red Storm showed its resiliency as it battled both DePaul and Marquette to the wire, losing by 10 or less points in each contest.
Â
Over the two-game road swing, Tiana England led the way for the Johnnies with 13.5 points and 5.5 assists per game. The Stamford Conn., native continues to be the conference's leading facilitator and ranks 17th in the nation, dishing out 5.6 helpers per contest.
Â
Curteeona Brelove and Qadashah Hoppie were close behind over the weekend, each averaging 12.5 points per game. In the team's most recent matchup with Marquette, Brelove showcased her stellar scoring ability, recording a career-high 22 points while also brining down eight boards.
Â
Senior guard Akina Wellere also averaged double figures over the weekend, chipping in 12.0 points per game.
Â
Georgetown enters Friday's contest on the heels of a 68-63 victory over Villanova, as graduate student Dorothy Adomako dropped a career-high 28 points en route to the Hoyas' win. Adomako's high-scoring performance earned her a spot on the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll. Senior guard Dionna White leads the team in scoring, averaging 15.9 points per game, while tying Adomako with a team-best 7.7 rebounds per contest.
Â
As a team, the Hoyas have been impressive defensively this year, as they pace the league in block shots with 5.0 per contest, good enough to rank 28th in the nation. Georgetown sits second behind Butler in the conference for scoring defense, limiting opponents to 57.7 points per game.
Â
St. John's owns a 34-28 all-time record in the series with Georgetown, and are 11-1 with Head Coach Joe Tartamella at the helm of the program. Dating back to 2015, the Red Storm has come out on top in its last nine meetings, with the Hoyas' most recent victory over the Red Storm coming in February of 2014.
Â
Following Friday's showdown, the Johnnies will have a quick turnaround as they wrap up the first half of conference play with Villanova on Sunday at 2 p.m. at Carnesecca Arena.
