St. John’s Ventures to Siena for Friday Night Showcase

St. John’s looks to extend its two-match winning streak with Siena looming on Friday.
QUEENS, N.Y. – On Friday, the St. John's Men's Tennis team will hit the road for the second time this season as the Red Storm heads to Loudonville, N.Y. to battle Siena at 6 p.m.
The Johnnies completed a perfect 2-0 weekend with a dominant 7-0 sweep over Marist last Sunday at Cunningham Park in Fresh Meadows. Coach Dillon Pottish's squad continued the momentum it created two nights prior after achieving an a captivating 5-2 victory over Boston College in a match that lasted almost four hours.
Luka Sucevic took care of his No. 1 singles match against Marist's Piotr Sowinski, (7-5, 6-3). Dusan Vukicevic and Daniel Skripnik would need three sets to take home victories in their second and third flight matches. After trading the first two sets with Lars Schouten, Vukicevic managed to grab a 10-6 third set win to claim St. John's third point. Skripnik needed to win the last two sets after dropping the first set to Marist's Chris Gladden, (1-6, 7-5, 10-7), respectively.
Charlie James, Ognjen Trejgut, and Igor Maslov secured their first singles wins of the season from flights 4-6, to guarantee the 7-0 sweep for the Red Storm.
With last week's sweep over Marist, St. John's has now posted a 29-16 (.644) mark against teams from the state of New York since 2010.
After beginning its season with a 2-0 record, Siena enters the weekend off of a pair of defeats on the road to Colgate and Boston University.
Friday's showdown will be the second in as many years between the programs. The Red Storm won in commanding fashion in last year's meeting, sweeping the Saints, 7-0.
The Saints are led by sophomore No. 1 seed, Sagar Bains, who picked up wins in both of his matches against Colgate on Jan. 26.
St. John's will travel back to the Metropolitan Area next weekend for matches against Quinnipiac next Saturday night at the National Tennis Center and at Columbia on Sunday Feb. 10 at 1 p.m.
