The Red Storm coaching staff will send nine athletes to California for a two-day meet
QUEENS, N.Y. (March 28, 2019) – The St. John's track & field team heads to Cobb Track and Angell Field for the 44th annual Stanford Invitational, beginning on Friday at 10 a.m.
Head Coach Jim Hurt and his staff will send nine athletes to compete across 12 events at the two-day meet.
The 4x100-meter squad of Destiny Davis, Leah Anderson, Skyy Diop and Ja'Tae Joyner heads to California after taking second place at the Penn Challenge with a time of 47.74 seconds.
The St. John's foursome is also expected to compete in five individual events combined.
Davis is scheduled to run in the 100-meter and 200-meter dashes after not racing at Franklin Field last weekend. Joining the 200-meter sprint will be Anderson and Diop, who are also slated to run in the 400-meter dash with Kafi Ottley. Joyner will hit the sand pits for just the second time in the outdoor season, competing in both the long jump and triple jump.
Junior Amarys Berry and senior Jennifer Odoemene are the lone throwers going to Stanford for the Red Storm. Shot putter Berry is coming off of a second-place distance of 14.58 meters at the University of Pennsylvania's meet last weekend. Odoemene set a personal record with a distance of 53.74 meters in the hammer throw, registering a third-place finish in Philadelphia. She will also look to improve her discus throw while on the West Coast.
Chenoa Sebastian and Torisha LaForce round out the Red Storm competitors with both runners slated for the 400-meter hurdles. The Johnnies' duo has not run in the event together since they finished first and second, respectively, at the Coastal Carolina Invitational. Sebastian is also scheduled to run in the 100-meter hurdles.
Following the Stanford Invitational, St. John's will split its squad for the Wagner College Invitational and Sam Howell Invitational on April 6-7.
