No. 4 St. John’s Defeats No. 5 Seton Hall in the BIG EAST Quarterfinals, 4-0

The Red Storm will face No. 1 Marquette in the semifinal round
CAYCE, S.C. (April 20, 2019) – The St. John's women's tennis team dominated No. 5 Seton Hall in the quarterfinal round of the BIG EAST Tennis Championships on Saturday, defeating the Pirates, 4-1, at the Cayce Tennis and Fitness Center.
In doubles action, the Red Storm (13-6) and the Pirates traded wins in the No. 1 and No. 3 contests. After Delia Arranz and Gabriela Tenorio won their contest, 6-1, in the No. 3 bout, Jessica Livianu and Najah Dawson dropped their match on the No. 2 court, 6-2, forcing a decisive third match for the doubles point.
The duo of Olaya Inclan Solis and Oceane Garibal averted any trouble heading into the singles event and dominated in their No. 3 match, clinching the doubles point for the Johnnies, 6-2.
In singles play, the Red Storm earned its first point of the match with a quick 6-0, 6-1 triumph in the No. 1 match by Livianu over Seton Hall's Anicka Fajnorova. The two-time defending BIG EAST Player of the Year is now 16-0 in singles competition this season.
In her No. 4 singles bout, Dawson controlled the momentum the entire match as she outlasted Michal Matson, 6-1, 6-2, giving the Johnnies a 3-0 lead.
Arranz secured the victory for the Johnnies, defeating Minja Gilgic in straight sets on the No. 5 court, 6-2, 6-1.
Inclan Solis had won the first set in her No. 3 bout, 6-3, over Regina Pitts when the Johnnies clinched the quarterfinal matchSt. John's was trailing in both the No. 3 and No. 6 contests as Garibal and Tenorio both dropped the first set in their respective matches.
Head Coach Lauren Leo's squad returns to action on Sunday, April 21, to face No. 1 Xavier in the semifinal round of the BIG EAST Championships at 9 a.m.
