St. John’s Falls to No. 19/17 Georgetown in Season Finale, 14-10

The Red Storm loses its final BIG EAST contest of the season, falls to 4-10 on the year
WASHINGTON, D.C. – The St. John's lacrosse team dropped its final contest of the season in the nation's capital on Saturday, losing to BIG EAST rival No. 19/17 Georgetown, 14-10, at Cooper Field.
Joe Madsen led all St. John's (4-10, 0-5 BIG EAST) players with five goals this afternoon. Colin Duffy recorded two goals while Mike Madsen, Colin Bosak, and Michael Hatzopoulos each added a tally in the losing effort.
Georgetown's Lucas Wittenberg opened the game with his first of three goals on the afternoon at the 13:20 mark. Daniel Bucaro and Austin McDonald's first quarter tallies closed out the opening quarter with the Hoyas leading 3-0.
Bosak immediately put the Johnnies on the board as he took the first faceoff of the period down the field and fired a shot past Georgetown netminder Owen McElroy. Joe Madsen connected on his first goal with 2:21 left to play in the first half.
Wittenberg, Bucaro, and Jake Carraway added three more goals in the second to give the Hoyas a 6-2 lead heading into the break.
The Red Storm's aggressive start of the second half allowed them to keep the came within reach. Joe Madsen scored two quick goals in under 90 seconds to cut Georgetown's in half at 6-4.
Robert Clark and James Reilly quickly responded with two goals a minute later to increase Georgetown's lead back to four at 8-4.
The Red Storm closed the quarter with three of the four remaining goals in the third, cutting its deficit to13-11 with 15 minutes left to play.
Joe Madsen's fifth goal of the afternoon brought the Johnnies to within one goal with 7:54 left to play. Both teams would trade two goals apiece in a span of three minutes of gameplay. St. John's momentum fizzled in the last three minutes of the game as the Hoyas scored the final three goals of the game to clinch the 14-10 victory.
Freshman goalkeeper Brody Agres recorded 15 saves and picked up a groundball in the loss.
Bosak battled Georgetown's James Reilly at the X for most of the afternoon. The junior faceoff specialist finished with 12 faceoff wins.
Six different Hoyas found the back of the net, including senior attackman Robert Clark who his team with four goals. Bucaro and Wittenberg each added three goals. Carraway also tallied two scores in the winning effort.
