Zsani Kajan recorded the Red Storm’s lone goal in the 54th minute
In the 110th minute of play between the St. John's women's soccer team and James Madison, the Dukes scored with 32 seconds remaining on the clock to record a 2-1 victory at Sentara Park on Sunday afternoon.
Zsani Kajan, the Red Storm's leading scorer last season, found the back of the net for the first time this year in the 54th minute. Jessica Garziano, the freshman from Melville, N.Y., picked up an assist on the play, for the first of her career.
Rookie Isabelle Aviza and junior Maia Cabrera each registered a shot on the afternoon for the Red Storm.
Naya Lipkens put forth a solid effort between the pipes for St. John's making eight saves.
James Madison controlled the contest statistically, registering 20 shots to the Red Storm's three. Eleven of the Dukes' 20 tries were on target, while two of the Johnnies' three tallies were on goal.
St. John's needed just one shot attempt to get on the board, as Kajan struck in the 54th minute on the team's first chance of the game. Garziano played a magnificent through ball into the box for Kajan, who went around the keeper before sending a strike to the bottom right corner of the cage, giving the Johnnies a 1-0 advantage.
JMU responded with five minutes remaining in regulation, as Claire Meiser sent one home to knot the contest at one goal apiece, taking the match into extra minutes.
The Red Storm registered a quality opportunity in the first overtime period, as Aviza had a good look at goal, but was turned away by the Dukes' keeper.

St. John's returns to action on Friday night, welcoming Yale to Belson Stadium for the Red Storm's home opener. The two teams are scheduled to kick off at 7 p.m.
