Wang fired a final round one-under 71 to finish in first place
St. John's senior Linda Wang fired a final round one-under 71 on Tuesday, to earn medalist honors at the Boston College Intercollegiate in Canton, Mass.
"I am really happy for Linda and her start to the season," St. John's Women's Golf Head Coach Ambry Bishop said. "She worked really hard this summer and played very consistent over the last few days. I look for her to carry this momentum into Princeton and continue her successes."
After opening play with scores of 71 and 77, Wang stood in a tie for third place entering Tuesday's final round. The Fresh Meadows, N.Y., native recorded a bogey-free front nine to make the turn at level-par 36. Wang's back-nine effort was highlighted by a pair of birdies on holes 15 and 18 to finish the day at one-under 71. The senior golfer turned in a combined 219 (+3) over 54 holes.
Competing as an individual, freshman Laia Barro kicked off her collegiate career on a high note, turning in an eight-over 224 to finish in a tie for seventh.
"It was great to see Laia have a great event in her first tournament as a freshman," Bishop said. "The team had some good contributions each round, but we look to have some stronger rounds this weekend at Princeton and build from our experience at the Boston College Intercollegiate."
Jessie Kweon saw her best effort come during the final round. The sophomore from Little Neck, N.Y., turned in a 76 over the final 18 holes to finish in the top half of the standings.
Junior Andrea Sanchez, recorded 11 pars while draining one birdie en route to a score of 78 to finish in a tie for 44th place.
Kaitleen Shee and Cloe Clocchiatti rounded out scoring for the Red Storm, carding an 80 and 85 over the final 18 holes.

As a team, the Red Storm turned in a three-round 924 (+60) to finish in eighth place. CSU Fullerton claimed the team title with a score of 894 (+30).
