Aliann Pompey Elected as Executive Committee Member on World Olympians Association

The four-time Olympian will represent the interests of all athletes from the Americas
QUEENS, N.Y. (Oct. 23, 2020) – St. John's track & field assistant coach Aliann Pompey has been elected to serve as the Executive Committee Member on the World Olympians Association, it was announced by the organization on Thursday.
The four-time Olympian and Guyana native was selected for the position on a virtual call during the World Olympians Association's (WOA) General Assembly.
Pompey was nominated by current President of the Guyana Olympians Association, Geoffrey Sankies and received the support of the Guyana Olympic Association.
"It's a tremendous honor to be elected by my fellow Olympians in the various NOC's (National Olympic Committees) to serve as a conduit for their voices," said Pompey. "I take their trust and confidence in my ability to effectively represent them very seriously. The real work starts now, and I look forward to working with and for them."
The 2020 World Olympians Association General Assembly offered a platform for members to share knowledge and highlight the benefits of WOA's strengthened role as an institution, while ensuring NOAs were equipped with the information and tools needed to operate and work to their full capacity in their own countries. The Assembly also discussed new developments and strategic plans to highlight the WOA's priorities over the next four years.
In 2019, Pompey was named the named the President of the Pan American Sports Athlete Commission. The Aliann Pompey (AP) Invitational was also added to the World Athletics Continental Tour in 2020, providing athletes with world ranking points that will count toward the 2021 Olympic Games in Tokyo and the IAAF World Championships.
