Amarys Berry Earns Podium Spot at NYRR Millrose Games

Berry took third place in the weight throw on Thursday
NEW YORK, N.Y. (Feb. 6, 2020) – After capturing the Metropolitan Indoor Championship title last weekend, the St. John's track & field team kicked off the 113th running of the NYRR Millrose Games with Amarys Berry earning a podium spot in the weight throw on Thursday.
Berry grabbed a third place finish after recording a mark of 16.36 meters at the New Balance Track & Field Armory. Senior Bernadette McGowan also took fifth place in the weight throw with a distance of 15.85 meters while sophomore Samantha Morillo placed seventh with a mark of 13.77 meters.
"It was great to see our weight throwers score at the Millrose Games today," Head Coach Jim Hurt said. "Amarys making the podium and Bernadette fighting to make the final continues our long and great throwing tradition."
Leah Anderson, Destiny Davis, Avon Samuels and Skyy Diop will return to the world's longest-running and most prestigious indoor track & field competition this Saturday to participate in the 4x200-meter relay.
Sophomore sprinter Brianna Burkley will also team back up with Anderson, Diop and Samuels for the 4x400-meter relay after taking first place at the Metropolitan Indoor Championships last weekend with a time of 3:43.87. The mark ranks first on the BIG EAST leaderboard this season.
The Red Storm's 4x200-meter relay team set a program record at last year's NYRR Millrose Games, recording a time of 1:38.30 while the Johnnies finished second in the 4x400-meter relay with a mark of 3:44.16.
St. John's will enter the meet this Saturday with the 4x200-meter relay scheduled to begin at 12:58 p.m. All of the action can be accessed clicking here.
