St. John’s Suffers 6-1 Defeat at Coastal Carolina

Livianu captures her 12th singles win of the season in Sunday’s loss to the Chanticleers
CONWAY, S.C. (March 1, 2020) – The St. John's women's tennis team dropped its third-straight contest on Sunday, falling to Coastal Carolina, 6-1, at the Stevens Tennis Complex.
The Chanticleers (4-3) blanked the Red Storm (6-6) in doubles play, securing all three of the bouts convincingly. Coastal Carolina conquered its first doubles contest on the No. 1 court, defeating Jessica Livianu and Gabriela Tenorio, 6-1. The home team sealed the first point of the afternoon with a triumph in the No. 3 slot as Flaminia Scara and Alexa Tiefel bested Milka Genkova and Kajsa Stegrell, 6-3. Najah Dawson and Oceane Garibal picked up St. John's lone win in the doubles round, knocking off Valentina Ureli and Aliicja Zduniak moments after the No. 2 tilt, 6-3.
In singles play, No. 51 Livianu tied the match at one point apiece, trouncing Iryna Vardanian in straight sets, 6-2, 6-1, for her 12th win of the season.
The Johnnies were unable to claim another singles victory in the remaining contests, falling in straight sets in each of the five bouts.
The Red Storm returns to the court on Tuesday, March 3, to square off with College of Charleston (5-5) in Charleston, S.C. The two programs have only met once in the series history as St. John's sealed a narrow 4-3 triumph over the Cougars on Feb. 20, 2018.
