St. John’s Impressive Performance at ITA Regionals Draws to a Close

Vila Antuna and Garcia Fall in Doubles Semi-Finals
PHILADELPHIA- The St. John's men's tennis team's strong performance at ITA Regionals came to an end on Monday. Ignacio Garcia and Axel Vila Antuna went the distance but ultimately fell to Harvard's Brian Shi and Daniel Milavsky in the doubles semi-finals 1-6, 7-6, 6-10.
The pair finished in the top four of a bracket that featured 68 teams from over 30 Division I schools across the Northeast. Garcia and Vila Antuna won four matches en route to the semi-finals.
In the first round, the duo edged Michael Sun and Theo Dean of Yale, 8-7 (7). They went on to notch victories over Ivy League opponents from Dartmouth and Princeton to reach the quarterfinals. Garcia and Vila Antuna defeated Simon Wibler and Cheng Tang of Buffalo (8-4) before their defeat to the Harvard pair.
This tournament marked the fall finale for the Red Storm. The team will return to action for a full spring season in 2022.
