St. John’s Competes in Temple Invitational

The Red Storm finishes with a combined record of 1-6
Philadelphia, PA. (Feb. 21, 2021) – The St. John's men's and women's fencing teams competed at the Temple Invitational on Sunday, finishing with a combined record of 1-6.
St. John's lone win of the afternoon came against NJIT, as the men's squad defeated the Highlanders, 15-12.
Sophomore foil specialist Jan Jurkiewicz led the way on the men's side with an undefeated record of 7-0. Maxime Tarasiewicz and Cesar Colon collected six wins each for the squad to finish with a team-high 20 triumphs.
The men's epee team tallied 11 victories with six of them coming from Nathan Vaysberg. Two other epee specialists in Maksym Kariuchenko and Jack Bell registered a combined five wins.
On the women's squad, sophomore epee specialist Nicole Gavrilko put forth a stellar effort, collecting a squad-leading seven victories. USFCA All-American First Team honoree Andrea Rizzi collected five wins on the stripe, while Melanie Dolgonos rounded out the women's epee wins with two
Third place Northeast Regionals epee finalist Arianna Pappone tallied six wins and three losses on the day.
The Johnnies next match will take place at Taffner Field House on March, 7 when the Red Storm welcome LIU and Sacred Heart to Queens.
