St. John’s Hosts Final Match of the Season

The Red Storm fencing teams will compete against Sacred Heart and LIU on Sunday
QUEENS, N.Y. (Mar. 6, 2021) – The St. John's fencing program will host its final match of the season on where the men's and women's fencing team will compete against Sacred Heart University on Sunday at 10:00 a.m. The women's team will also compete against Long Island University at 12:30 p.m.
This season the Red Storm has won its matches against Boston College, Drew University and competed in the Temple Invitational.
The men's foil squad captured a team-leading 20 wins at the Temple invitational, as Jan Jurkiewicz went undefeated with seven victories. Cesar Colon and Maxime Tarasiewicz combined for 12 wins on the stripe for the men's foil team against some of the top fencing programs. The squad posted 16 wins the week before at Drew University and only lost two matches.
In the second match of the season, the women's saber team swept Drew University in two rounds, winning all their bouts against the Rangers. Freshman sensation Fanni Potz-Nagy will look to close out her freshman season with an unbeaten record as she has won all 12 of her duels. Salome Rodgers posted eight wins in her matches against Boston College and Drew University to help her team to victory.
Reigning USFCA Second Team All-American Arianna Pappone collected 12 wins in her junior campaign, which led the women's foil team.
Following the match, a select few Red Storm fencers will compete in the NCAA regional tournament on March 25-28 at Penn State University.
